Purkinje Fiber
Description:
Purkinje fibers, also known as Purkinje cells or Purkinje neurons, are specialized cardiac muscle fibers that play a vital role in the conduction of electrical impulses through the heart. These fibers are responsible for transmitting signals from the atrioventricular node to the muscles of the ventricles, allowing for efficient and coordinated heart contractions. Purkinje fibers are larger and have more extensive branching than regular cardiac muscle cells, enabling them to rapidly distribute electrical signals throughout the ventricles.
