Description:

The hiccups, also known as synchronous diaphragmatic flutter (SDF) or singultus, are involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscle. This spasmodic contraction causes a sudden intake of breath followed by a sudden closure of the vocal cords, resulting in a characteristic "hic" sound. Hiccups are usually temporary and harmless, but they can be persistent and troublesome in some cases.
