Entymeme

Definition: An enthymeme is a rhetorical device that omits one or more parts of a syllogism, leaving the audience to fill in the missing pieces and draw their own conclusion.

Example:
- "All men are mortal. Socrates is a man. Therefore, Socrates is mortal." This syllogism can be transformed into an enthymeme by removing the second premise, resulting in "All men are mortal. Therefore, Socrates is mortal."
- "You should exercise regularly, for a healthy body leads to a healthy mind." The enthymeme in this example leaves out the premise that a healthy mind is desirable, but the audience is expected to make the connection.

Part of Speech: Noun

Sense: Popular

Usage: In everyday conversations, enthymemes are often used to make arguments more concise or to involve the audience by encouraging active participation in the reasoning process.
