Distinguished Conduct Medal

The Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) is a military decoration awarded to personnel of the British Armed Forces and formerly also to personnel of other Commonwealth countries. It was instituted in 1854 during the Crimean War for gallantry in the field. The DCM can be awarded to both officers and other ranks, and is the second-highest award for gallantry in action after the Victoria Cross.
